Eddie Otchere: "Right, well in my opinion this next one (left) is really powerful. The artist has drawn this image in pencil. For starters shall we decide which theme to put it in under?"
Cliff: "Well he’s holding up a gun like he’s gonna shoot someone and so the theme has gotta be anger."
Rob: "Yeah but look at his eyes ... I reckon he’s sad, not angry. The thing is you’ve got to think about what this picture is really about."
Marv: "That’s right, he looks like he’s had enough."
Eddie Otchere: "OK so we’re agreed that this one goes in the show under ‘anger’ but what do you guys think of this piece (right), it’s a very intense image."
Rob: "Give me a closer look ... is that biro? I’m impressed, that must have taken ages."
Cliff: "I’ll take a look at the back ... yeah it says the whole thing’s done in biro."
Marv: "Look at those swirls; I really like what he’s done there. Don’t you reckon that the theme for this one is patterns?"
Cliff: "You know that shape is a vortex ... yeah, this one can go with the others for pattern."
Eddie Otchere: "Cool so we are agreed on that one, now the next piece (left) is this amazing piece of aboriginal style artwork ... what do you think?"
Cliff: "What is that?"
Si: "Dots of paint ... that is a mission! This guy must have spent ages on it. I’d like that one for my wall. Another one for the pattern theme?"
Rob: "Yeah it's boss, put it in under pattern."
Eddie Otchere: "Right, now this next one (right) is one of my favourites, it is a view of a street taken from an unusual angle."
Josh: "I like this one, it's detailed ... it reminds me of my area. What theme shall we put it in under?"
Rob: "We'll put this one in under 'home'."
Marv: "Yeah home is where the heart is!"
Eddie Otchere: "I think that with this next image (left) we were undecided as to whether it should be in under the theme of ‘home’ or ‘prison life’. Now that you have had a chance to think about it, what are your views?"
Josh: "The painting says it is of American prisoners, but everyone looks like that now."
Nev: It’s like our area innit!
Cliff: "Another one for the theme of home."
Eddie Otchere: "This piece speaks volumes, it is of an orchestra modelled entirely out of sheets of music. In some ways I find it quite sad because the person that made this is clearly in prison for a long time."
Si: "Whoah! The whole thing is made out of paper? That must have taken ages."
Rob: "It says it took a year."
Marv: "How could you spend that long on something? Looking at it you can feel what it’s like to not be on the outside. I’m glad I’ve got my freedom."
Eddie Otchere: "You’ve already seen many entries today that are made from recycled materials, but this one (left) goes that step further, each piece is carved out of a bar of soap with an old paper clip."
Nev: "Why are they made out of soap?"
Cliff: "It was all he had."
Rob: "Suzuki, Ducati, Honda ... these are all bikes names innit! I can see that he likes them and wants to make art about them, but to spend this long? Prison life must be boring."
Si: "That is the theme for this one, ‘prison life’."
Eddie Otchere: "This piece (right) is very clever, If you take a good look at it you should see some images hidden within the pattern."
Si: "That’s N-I-C-E."
Cliff: "What is that hidden in the pattern?"
Rob: "It’s like a heart with a head inside. This one should also go in under the theme of ‘pattern’."
