Effective Practice In-Service Training (INSET) is a flexible resource enabling individuals and teams to implement the Effective Practice strategy. Focusing on the 10 Key Elements of Effective Practice, it enables managers at a local level to construct bespoke learning and development programmes.
Effective Practice INSET is a resource that can be used to help meet Effective Practice Quality Assurance (EPQA) targets, assist in meeting individual training needs, form part of an induction for new practitioners and provide development tools for a team.
Effective Practice INSET has been developed to help managers support their teams. They will be able to use the wide range of INSET products to address their immediate or long-term training needs. They will also be able to choose the intensity of training required from a one-day brief overview to three-day intensive coverage.
Practitioners will be able to choose whether to just undertake Effective Practice INSET, for which they will receive a certificate of attendance, or to obtain accreditation by submitting a written piece of learning that shows a reflection of learning set against a programme of learning outcomes. This accreditation can be used towards the Youth Justice Foundation Degree.
The training outcomes of Effective Practice INSET have been designed to give teams the time and skills to reflect on the 10 Key Elements of Effective Practice. It cannot therefore meet all training needs across a service, although it does offer a co-ordinated, accredited approach to training, in line with the Board’s Effective Practice strategy.
