Prevention programmes and the Fire and Rescue Services need to work together to help prevent young people committing fire-related crime and anti-social behaviour. However, while partnership arrangements are already in place in some areas, this is not universal. Collaboration is therefore sporadic, and in many cases occurs only on an ad hoc basis. In addition, much of the current work focuses on those young people who have an offending history, rather than on working with those who are at risk of offending, in order to prevent the crime happening in the first place.
The YJB, Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and Chief Fire Officer Association (CFOA) are encouraging the establishment of formal partnerships between prevention programmes and Fire and Rescue Services.
