The original Key Elements of Effective Practice, published in 2003, formed the basis of the
Effective Practice Quality Assurance process within YOTs and some secure establishments.
Although this process no longer exists (click for new monitoring processes in YOTs and secure establishments), the YJB recommends that the revised Key Elements of Effective Practice are still used by youth justice services as the primary tool for evidence-based self-assessment and quality assurance, providing the benchmark for effective practice.
