Youth Justice Board issues warning on Oakhill Secure Training Centre
The YJB has today issued rectification notices to STC Milton Keynes Ltd, the contractor appointed to operate Oakhill Secure Training Centre in Milton Keynes.
14 May 2008
The YJB’s ability to place young people at Oakhill Secure Training Centre has been affected by the performance of G4S, the operating sub-contractor. As a result of the performance of G4S, we can currently place only 40 young people at the centre, as opposed to the intended capacity of 80, as provided under the contract.
Over the past four years, the YJB has used a number of contractual and non-contractual actions in seeking to enforce delivery of the services to be provided by G4S.
Despite these efforts, G4S are still not providing the services required and therefore the only appropriate action available is to issue rectification notices.
This action has been endorsed by ministers at the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Ministry of Justice.
The welfare of the young people held at Oakhill Secure Training Centre is of paramount importance to the YJB.
We will be receiving daily intelligence alerts which will be used to inform and review, if necessary, the safety of young people held at the centre.
