New youth justice Key Elements of Effective Practice launched
The YJB today published its latest Key Elements of Effective Practice.
8 July 2008
This series of simple manuals promote the latest evidence on what works in the youth justice system, based on evidence and promising practice.
They are aimed at practitioners working in the community or the secure estate with young people who offend and support good consistent practice across the youth justice services. The new series spans ten thematic areas, including two new titles, ranging from Assessment, Planning Interventions and Supervision to Offending Behaviour Programmes.
Brendan Finegan, Director of Strategy, said:
“These latest Key Elements of Effective Practice represent core areas of practice to reduce re-offending, ranging from assessing and engaging young people to interventions themselves, aligned to the risk and protectice factors associated with offending.”

Notes to editors
-
The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB) oversees the youth justice system in England and Wales. We work to prevent offending and reoffending by children and young people under the age of 18, and to ensure that custody for them is safe, secure, and addresses the causes of their offending behaviour.
-
Specifically, we advise the Secretary of State on the operation of, and standards for, the youth justice system; monitor the performance of the youth justice system; purchase places for, and place, children and young people remanded or sentenced to custody; identify and promote effective practice; make grants to local authorities or other bodies to support the development of effective practice; commission research and publish information.
