The YJB contributed to this document, and last year published the research Groups, Gangs and Weapons to discover the factors underlying any trends, as well as identifying implications for policy and practice.
Frances Done, YJB chair, said:
“This guidance details how close relationships between police, children’s agencies and the youth offending service can help schools to save young people from slipping into more serious group offending and gangs - in those areas where they exist.
It is clear that this is a complex and changing scene - so schools, youth offending teams, police and other local services and neighbourhood groups need to work together to challenge young people and families involved and support those who are victims of group or gang activity - often other young people - in a way which protects them and repairs the harm done.”
