The House of Commons Justice Committee is holding an e-consultation as part of its inquiry into justice reinvestment.
The justice reinvestment inquiry [opens in new window] has been set up to examine whether the resources currently given to the criminal justice system are being used effectively or whether there are alternative strategies which would give a better return for society than traditional methods of dealing with offenders.
The Committee is running an e-consultation because it wants to hear from the public and stakeholders, including youth justice practitioners, about how they think the money spent on custody and probation should be used. They would like to know what the priorities of the public and stakeholders are in terms of spending on criminal justice and resources used to reduce reoffending.
The Committee will use the information gathered through the e-consultation, alongside written submissions and evidence given by experts in oral questioning sessions to make recommendations to the Government about its policy on spending on prisons, probation and offenders. The YJB has given both written and oral evidence to the Committee. Quotes from the e-consultation will be used to support the Committee’s final report and recommendations.
