The YJB welcomes the six month consultation on improving health and social care services for people subject to the criminal justice system, launched today.
The consultation, Improving Health Supporting Justice, was published by the Department of Health, with the YJB, Department for Children Schools and Families, the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office.
Graham Robb, Interim Chair of the YJB, said:
“In the past few years, we have invested substantially to enhance and upgrade the secure estate for children and young people. Already, 92 per cent of under-18s in custody are currently engaged with a substance misuse service. This has been achieved by creating 12 dedicated units for young people in Young Offender Institutions. But, there is still much more to be done.
“We look forward to learning about how to build, improve and provide services which brings together health, wellbeing and mental health services for the some of the most vulnerable young people in the criminal justice system.”
