Directory of Emerging Practice
The Directory of Emerging Practice contains details of programmes, templates, processes and documents from across a range of practice themes. They are intended to provide a starting point for youth justice services, across the country, seeking to improve and adapt their practice without creating programmes or procedures from scratch. The Directory of Emerging Practice collects and sorts submissions under the following themes (those that are Key Elements of Effective Practice are shown in bold):

- Behaviour management
- Communications
- Diversity (including young women who offend)
- Education, training and employment

The Directory of Emerging Practice contains examples of materials that have been submitted by youth offending teams and secure establishments. It also contains materials from private providers and the voluntary and community sector, which have been submitted by youth offending teams or secure establishments.
The Directory of Emerging Practice is by no means a comprehensive database of products and services that are available; it contains examples of what is currently being used by youth offending teams, secure establishments, the commercial marketplace, and the voluntary and community sector.
The YJB undertakes a high level screening process for all items submitted to the Directory. The YJB reserves the right not to include a submission at its absolute discretion: completing a pro-forma will not automatically guarantee inclusion in the Directory of Emerging Practice.
Any item included in the Directory is that of the contributor and not of the YJB, and reference to any such item in the Directory does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or approval by the YJB. The YJB accepts no liability for the content of items submitted by any person or organisation.
