Tips for Using the Website
Getting around
Use the menu on the left to select a subject. When you go to a new subject area, this menu will change to provide further options to explore topics within the subject area.
Practitioners' Portal
The Practitioners' Portal is the area of the website for anyone working within youth justice. To access it, click on the blue icon in the top left of the screen.
The Portal is regularly updated with new guidance, information and tools to assist practitioners in their work.
Using the search facility
You can search for a specific subject by typing a word or phrase in the search box at the top left of the screen, and clicking the little arrow (or you can hit the return key).
Finding a publication or research report
Youth Justice Board publications and research are contained within the Publications area.
When you are inside this area, you can either use the lefthand menu to browse by subject, or you can use the search box to find a specific document. The 'advanced search' option allows you to search within a specific category.
Note that the publications search only looks at Youth Justice Board publications and research. If you require a wider search, use the main website search.
Publications can either be ordered online or downloaded (the available options are indicated for each publication).
Some key youth justice legislation and reports, not published by the Youth Justice Board, are listed under Legislation and Reports.
Opening and saving documents
Where documents are provided for download, the file type and file size will be given in square brackets. To open/view the document, click on the link with your left mouse button.
If you want to save the document, rather than open it, click on the link with your right mouse button and select 'Save Target As'.
PDF documents are viewed with Adobe Acrobat. If you do not have Acrobat, click on the icon to install.
Printing pages
When printing web pages, if you find that the margins on the paper are too wide (i.e. the edges of the web page are being cut off), you can adjust the margins as follows (these instructions are for Internet Explorer):
- Select 'Page Setup'
- Ensure that the paper size matches the paper you are using (e.g. A4)
- Set all margins to zero
